Jackson State Community College “Go Green Tour” Rolls Through Bolivar

The Jackson State Community College (JSCC) Go Green Tour rolled into Bolivar on Wednesday, March 14, 2023, and made a stop at Bolivar Central High School. Bolivar is one of the locations the tour is making across 10 counties in West Tennessee through the month of April to share more about the college with students who are interested in attending.

Students were able to visit with JSCC representatives who set up tables with information about the college, academic program offerings, financial aid, and more.

JSCC offers courses at both Bolivar Central High School and Middleton High School for students to take dual enrollment courses through the college. Those credits can transfer to the college for students continuing their college career. JSCC is also a Tennessee Promise school.

Students from the graduating classes of 2023 and 2024 were able to register in a drawing to win prizes. The lucky winners included one student who received an iPad, and two students who each received $500 scholarships to JSCC.

Some of the City of Bolivar and Hardeman County officials that were in attendance included the mayors, a commissioner, school board members, and the director of schools.

“We appreciate Jackson State taking the time to come and speak to our students because we want to make sure they are aware of all their opportunities,” said Dr. Christy Smith, Hardeman County Director of Schools.

“It is good for the kids to come out. A lot of them don’t know what’s out there and so this just gives them an opportunity to see the different paths of study and what is available at Jackson State. We are just thankful they would come out and do this for us today,” said Mr. James Crocker, Bolivar Central High School Principal.
