Memorial Stair Climb Honoring Firefighters Who Died on 9/11 to be Held in Jackson

The Jackson Fire Department (JFD) recently announced it’s Inaugural Patriot Day Memorial Stair Climb that will be held at the Ballpark at Jackson on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 8 a.m.

The event honors the 343 firefighters who selflessly sacrificed their lives on September 11, 2001, and to bring awareness and honor all heroic first responders who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty on 9/11.

“We will ‘never forget the growing list of heroes who have died due to illnesses related to their courageous work throughout the rescue and recovery effort,” said Jackson Fire Department Chief Darryl Samuels. “As we continue to face overwhelming odds, we will do so, with strength, resolve, and unity. God bless the United States of America.”

The stair climb is open to all first responders, military personnel, and members of the community. On the climb, participants will ascend approximately 2,200 stairs, which is symbolic of the 110 stories ascended by first responders at the World Trade Center. The stair climb may be completed in full personal protective gear, partial gear, or gym clothes. In addition to the stair climb, there will be ground games for adults and children, vendor booths, a dunking booth, and much more!

Mark your calendar and plan to support this worthy cause to honor those who have gone before us. To stay up-to-date as the event draws near, follow the JFD Facebook page and register to participate in the event.
