Jonah Brady Receives High School Diploma and Personal Trainer Certification

Middleton resident Jonah Brady achieved two academic accomplishments in May when he graduated from McNairy Central High School (MCHS), not only earning a high school diploma, but also becoming certified as a personal trainer. For Jonah, already a talented soccer player, receiving his certification has added to his sports knowledge and given him a means to better care for his own body as well as helping other athletes.

Jonah was able to take the NASM Personal Trainer Certificate program in his exercise science class at MCHS where he played soccer, and also was on the football team until he tore his ACL

“I mainly learned about the anatomy of the human body, exercises to target each muscle group, and the NASM OPT model which teaches how to properly train the muscles,” said Jonah, who used his education to assist his “first client”, himself, as he recovered from the ACL injury. “While recovering from ACL repair, I was able to use the knowledge I gained in the class to help with my physical therapy and recovery. It helped me understand how to properly exercise in the gym. Also, when a certain muscle was in pain from sports or exercise, I better understood what the problem was from.”

For Jonah, the program also provided a great foundation for his future career goal of becoming a professional personal trainer.

“Personal training as a career is rated as one of the happiest professions,” said Jonah. “I highly recommend if any students are interested in learning more about how to exercise properly and want to become a personal trainer, to pursue the program.”

Jonah plans to attend Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering technology and join the Formula 1 SAE team.

“In college, I can hopefully use it [my certification] as a side job while I study. And also help my brother train since he’s my workout buddy.”

Middleton resident Trey Joiner, who was also a student at MCHS, earned his high school diploma and became certified as a personal trainer when he graduated in May 2024.
