Library Now Accepting Veteran Wall of Honor Submissions Online

The Bolivar-Hardeman County Library now has an online form option making it easier for people to send submissions for its “Wall of Honor”, a collage of servicemen and servicewomen from Hardeman County who served and gave in the name of country, so Americans can have the freedoms they now enjoy. The “Wall of Honor” of military veterans was erected in 2021 by Vanessa Lambert, Bolivar-Hardeman County Library History Room Clerk. Since its inception, the original wall space, which now includes more than 350 photographs, stars, and flags representing American soldiers, has already outgrown the original dedicated area.

In the past, submissions were only accepted by e-mail or hand-delivery at the library. Although they received several submissions to make up the wall that exists today, having items coming from so many people and in different manners created more work for collection.

“We got telephone calls from people asking what they had to do to submit photos,” said Ms. Lambert, who noted submissions were regularly being received by different staff at the library. “We have so many now, we physically ran out of wall to display pictures.”

To streamline the process and have submissions all in one place, so the staff could better manage the pictures and information about the soldiers, the online form was created. The short from includes the following questions: Name of Veteran, Branch, and Years of Service. A picture of the veteran may be uploaded through the form or e-mailed. Pictures now come through online and everything is recorded on a spreadsheet for a better record.

The “Wall of Honor” includes veterans, living and deceased, who served in World War I, World War II, Korean, Vietnam, Persian Gulf, Iraq, and Afghanistan wars are currently represented. The library would like to have pictures of county veterans from as many different wars as possible. Pictures of veterans are also accepted of relatives of people who live in Hardeman County, even of those relatives do not.

Although the Bolivar-Hardeman County Library staff will still accept submissions in-person, people are encouraged to use the online form. If you have questions about the “Wall of Honor” or about history of Hardeman County, contact Ms. Lambert for more information.
