The County Officials Orientation Program was held last week in Franklin, Tennessee. All newly elected and incumbent officials were invited to attend. Attendees received training in areas such as open meetings, public records, personnel issues, Ethics & Conflicts of Interest, Overview of Offices, Basis of Authority, and Oaths & Bonds.

“The training was both tedious and fulfilling alike,” said Circuit Court Clerk Eunice Gudger. “Learning the scope of my duties made me excited for the possibility of being a force for good. It was also a pleasure to meet the people that share my duties in different counties. There’s something reassuring about finding commonality in public service.”

Beginning September 1, 2018, newly-elected or newly-appointed county commissioners are required to complete orientation training provided by CTAS under T.C.A. § 5-5-113. In addition, those newly elected members will also be required to complete seven hours of continuing education provided or approved by CTAS on an annual basis.

Not pictured, but in attendance, were Commissioner Brad Grantham, County Clerk Tonet Griggs, Trustee Sandy Hammons, and Register of Deeds Lily Barnes.
