Main Street Festival Brings Whiteville Together

The show must go on and it did on Saturday, August 26, 2023, as Whiteville held the 3rd Annual Main Street Festival against the haze of a heat advisory. Despite the temperature, vendors lined the streets and performers took the stage entertaining as professionals do, bringing good music to the Town of Whiteville.

There were activities for people of all ages from face painting, arts and crafts activities, carnival rides, and a live auction.

Local entrepreneur and celebrity Camile Shavon, brought her energy as emcee capturing the attention of festival goers throughout the event. In the afternoon, she shifted gears long enough to present a hair show. DJ Lowe was on hand to display his disc jockey talent.

Local entrepreneur and celebrity Camile Shavon was the emcee for the Whiteville Festival last year and again this year.

Throughout the day, several citizens were recognized for their contribution to the Whiteville community. Some recognitions included the family of Ramsey “Rambo” Fleet who passed away earlier this year and now has a stretch of highway in Whiteville named after him, the Whiteville Food Bank volunteers, and former Whiteville Mayor Janes Bellar.

Music performers included Southern Rose, First Baptist Quartet, and Brown Baptist Church. Hometown favorite and nationally recognized entertainer Caleb Minter, who was the featured musician, closed out the evening.

Temperatures cooled as the evening continued bringing more festival goers out to enjoy the event. Whiteville citizens as well as visitors from out of the area came together and celebrated a community in a town that is steadily moving towards revitalization.

“I am just excited about everything that is happening, All weekend long we’ve had a good time and enjoyed ourselves,” said Mayor Gene Bowden. “Caleb did a spectacular job performing. This event has been everything we expected and more. It seems to get better every year.”

The Town of Whiteville is already making plans for the festival in 2024, which it hopes will surpass expectations.
