Super Hero Winners Chosen at the Annual March of the Dogs
There were little dogs and big dogs everywhere on courthouse square on Saturday, October 28, 2023, for the 18th Annual Hardeman Adoptable Animals (HAA) March of the Dogs costume contest. All of the dogs had two things in common – they were cute and all were super heroes.
After the presentations and judging were done, three winners were announced.
The HAA Costume Contest Winners were 1st Place – The Incredibles with Megan and Zoey Roberts; Second Place – Firefighter (undercover) Daisy with Sarah Clos; and 3rd Place – Everyday Super Hero dogs Chanel (veterinarian) and Connery (policeman) with Karen Lax (nurse), Jolie King (nurse), and Charlie Dowell.
Participating in the March of Dogs costume contest is an annual event for many, as it was for each of the winners. Megan and Zoey Roberts almost missed participating this year, because her son had a baseball game later that day.
“She was very upset we were not going to get to do it,” said Megan referring to her daughter, Zoey. “We love it. This is our favorite event. We look forward to it all year long.”
Last year, the Roberts family was named 2nd Place. Keeping the family tradition alive this year by participating in the contest earned them a 1st Place win.
Sarah Clos has participated in the March of the Dogs for several years with her two dogs. This was the first year Sarah and Daisy participated in the event without Delilah.
“This is Daisy’s first big outing with a lot of other dogs without her bigger confidence booster, Delilah, who passed in April. Delilah had complications from myasthenia gravis,” said Clos, who also shared what she loves about participating in the March of the Dogs. “I like participating in the event because it brings awareness to all of the adoptable animals. It is a good outlet for the different people in the community to meet who have dogs. It also raises money for the animal shelter.”
This is the third year Karen Lax has participated in the contest.
“I’ve been in it three times and we get third place every time. We’re stuck on third,” Karen said with a laugh, also noting she enjoys participating in the event each year.
