Mayor’s Charity Ball Raises Funds for Bolivar High School Band and Recognizes Area Businesses
City of Bolivar Mayor Julian McTizic hosted the Mayor’s Charity Ball that was created to assist and support local charities and non-profit organizations in Hardeman County. This is the fifth year the ball has been held, having already raised thousands of dollars over the years for area charities and organizations to benefit their efforts in the community.
“The ball was conceived as a way to give back to those who provide services, support, and assistance to our community,” said Mayor McTizic. “Proceeds from the 2024 Mayor’s Charity Ball will be donated to support the Bolivar Central High School band.”
The City of Bolivar Municipal Center gym was transformed into an intimate setting where dinner guests, serenaded by violinist Zoe Johnson, enjoyed a main course of baked chicken, rice pilaf, and seasoned vegetables; an exquisite arrangement of fruit and cheeses; and a divine dessert station. Students from the Bolivar Middle School BETA club were servers for the evening and received praises for their work.
Along with the ball being a fundraiser, each year Mayor McTizic recognizes area businesses for their contributions to the Hardeman County community. This year, the four businesses receiving recognition were Hair Expressions, Hyman Tire, Shaw Broadcasting, and Vaughan Oil Company. These businesses have been active in the community throughout the years sponsoring city events, multiple sports leagues, school organizations and events, as well as providing mentorship programs to local youth. Mayor McTizic presented each business with a plaque ornamented with a key to the city.
A special moment during the evening was when featured entertainer Courtney Little opened his set and sang a touching rendition of “Amazing Grace” in honor of Mayor McTizic’s grandmother, Mrs. Azie McTizic, who passed away earlier this week.
The BCHS band has been making great strides this school year under the direction of William Griggs and will benefit greatly from the donations received from the proceeds from the 2024 Mayor’s Charity Ball.
