Active Shooter Training Held in Middleton

Officers from the Middleton Police Department along with Hardeman County Sheriff Department and Hardeman County School Resource Officers attended and completed a day of Active Shooter training on the campus of Middleton High School last month.

Training included a PowerPoint presentation of recent and past Active Shooter incidents from across the country. Officers gained critical information in responding to various types of Active Shooter incidents that included issues of officer response time, facing high power weapons, breaching possible obstacles, dealing with mass injuries and or deaths, setting up zone, addressing the media, and community counseling. Officers then broke down into two, three, and four man response teams to do building searches and Active Shooter location and engagement training.

Training concluded a walk-through to address safety concerns and issues throughout the entire school campus. Law enforcement agencies included the Middleton Police Department, Hardeman County Sheriff Department, and each of the Hardeman County School Resource Officers.

“We as a Law Enforcement family will continue with every means available in an attempt to keep all of our school campuses as safe as possible,” said Chief Arness Bowden. “We will continue to train and learn as we police to serve and protect our future generations.”

State law requires each school to conduct a security assessment based on criteria from the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security.

The agencies extend their appreciation to the Hardeman County School Board and superintendent and the staff of the Middleton High School for their assistance and support.
