Middleton Girls and Boys Team Camp Sparks Competition and Builds Relationships {photo gallery}

Basketball players from 17 area schools came together at Middleton High School (MHS) for the Middleton High School Girls and Boys Team Camp. MHS head basketball coach James Burkley started the camp when he began coaching at the school 20 years ago. Over the years, the camp has grown in participation by other schools and is one teams, and its players look forward to attending every summer.

“I started the camp to build our teams’ basketball chemistry and build relationships with other high schools,” said coach Burkley, who also sees the camp as a way to keep players interested in the game during the offseason. “The camp keeps players motivated and gives them something to look forward to!”

MHS Lady Tigers participated in the Middleton High School Girls and Boys Team Camp, which was held in Middleton.

The teams were paired and half-court games each camp day. Although there were no championship titles to win, play was extremely competitive until the final buzzer.

“Tishomingo is the MHSAA state Class 4A Champions and the best girls’ team we have played in years,” said coach Burkley. “The camp this year is the best overall one I have put on in years. There were lots of good and talented boys and girls’ teams!”
