Middleton Handles City Business at Monthly Meeting

The City of Middleton met for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Monday, October 16, 2023. Although the meeting ran shorter than most meetings in the past, the alderman managed to complete a lot of city business before adjourning for the evening.

After approving the minutes and the bills that were paid from the September meeting, other city business was discussed.

Fire Department Report {3:33 min minute mark}

Fire Chief Kevin Markum was not present, but a report was given by City Administrator Jimmy Simpson, Jr. There were 11 fire calls in the county and two inside the city, and three first responder calls in the county and one in the city.

Police Department Report {4:06 minute mark}

Police Chief Arness Bowden was present and gave the following report:

Juvenile Arrests – 2

Drug Arrests – 1

Traffic Citations – 25

Traffic Warnings – 22

Motorist Assists – 8

Vehicle Lock-Outs and Assists – 6

Other Public Assistance – 13

Crash reports and Accident Reports – 6

Alarm calls – 5

City and County Assists – 32

Vehicles are all up and running. Year-to-date city citation revenue is $5, 245; year-to-date drug fund, nothing listed; and year-to-date county funds is $39.90. The department had a food drive in September and also held a Narcan class. Narcan is now carried in each police vehicle.

Utility Report {5:43 minute mark}

Some of the work completed includes two meters were installed and replaced; and a water line repair on Rose Lane. Two customer complaints, one that included cloudy water. One new customer tap on Reindeer Street; three flushed hydrants, one lift station repair issues with First Baptist Church and TKE; two new taps, one on Reindeer Street and the second on South Main Street, and more. Water loss is still around 10 percent. Revenue for meter water sales was $17,826 and revenue for sewer costs is $18,989.67 with a gain of 343,068 gallons.

Citizen request for a sanitation credit was approved.

Bid Award {8:50 minute mark}

Awarding bid for sewer line installation to F.L. Crane (north of TKE) was approved to go to Pinpoint Services for $9,425.

There were no public comments.

The revenue and expense report was distributed and then the meeting was adjourned.

Next Regular Meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 20, 2023, at 7 p.m.
