Middleton High School Implements New Cell Phone Policy

On Friday, July 18, 2025, Middleton High School (MHS) Principal James Crocker shared on the school’s Facebook page an update regarding the cell phone policy, which will take affect for the 2025/2026 school year. The update in the policy is the result of HB 0932, which took affect on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, and “a revised policy from the Hardeman County Board of Education.”
Following the requirements of HB 0932, the cell phone policy of the Hardeman County Schools “prohibits students from using wireless communication devices during instructional time, except in certain circumstances.”
The first day of 2025/2026 school year is Monday, August 4, 2025. Students who choose to bring a cellphone or other wireless device on campus will be required to relinquish it to school staff, who will place the item(s) in a secured location. The device will be returned to the student at the end of the school day. It is highly recommended students leave their devices locked in their car, or even better, at home. Students will no longer be permitted to store devices in their backpacks or lockers.
Principal Crocker shared much thought was given to the new policy decision and its implementation. He also assured parents, they would be able to connect and leave a message for their child during school hours by calling the MHS front office at (731) 376-8391.
The overall hope is to create an environment , which “promotes better focus, stronger peer interaction, and an improved learning environment” often hindered by the distraction of cell phones.
