Middleton Now Equipped with a Helipad for Improved Medical Services

The City of Middleton is now better equipped and ready to meet the needs of people needing life flight for medical services with the installation of a helipad in the city. The helipad is located off of Pulse Road, which is not too far from City Hall.

‘We are proud to have it. It has been two years in the waiting, and we finally got it. We have an open area, and we can land a helicopter 24/7,” said City of Middleton Fire Chief Kevin Marcum noting other places across the county where there are helipads. “There is one in Bolivar at the hospital and at Grand Valley Lakes.”

Chief Marcum also shared Woodrun is using its old tennis court as a helipad and that Pocahontas has one as well. Before the helipad was installed, first responders used the City Park ball field, but that presented challenges whenever the location was being otherwise used.

“We don’t have to evacuate any cars of any kind. We have been landing at the City Park ball field,” said Chief Marcum. “If we have any kind of event, we have to evacuate the whole place. If we have 50 to 75 cars there, there is no way to get everybody out and land a helicopter [quickly].”

Having a dedicated helipad will enable first responders to better serve the people in the community.
