Middleton Teacher Arrested on Multiple Charges

Jason Childers, a Middleton Middle School teacher, was arrested on Monday, November 18, 2024, on multiple charges after at least seven minors, whose ages range from 12-14 years old, came forward accusing him of inappropriate conduct. The Hardeman County Sherriff’s department investigated and arrested Childers on two counts of Sexual Battery by Authority Figure, one count of Aggravated Sexual Battery, and four counts of Simple Assault.

Some of the accusations included: routinely rubbing females backs and arms; referring to female students as baby, baby girl, sugar, honey, sweetie, and beautiful; grabbing a student by the arm and forcibly escorting her out of the classroom; touching a student’s buttocks and wrapping his arms around students’ waists. The students advised these actions, and others, made them feel uncomfortable.

The Hardeman County Board of Education released the following statement, “The Hardeman County Board of Education and district administrative staff are aware of and monitoring the recent arrest of a teacher. Upon receiving initial complaints alleging misconduct, the district promptly initiated an internal investigation. The Hardeman County Sheriff’s Department then launched an external investigation and the district has cooperated with requests from the Department for information. This statement is being issued to provide transparency to our stakeholders. The district remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students and staff. As the situation progresses, decisions will be made based on the facts that emerge.”

Childers is being held at the Hardeman County Criminal Justice Complex on a $150,000 bond.
