Middleton Tigers Basketball Season Ends at Hillcrest {video}

The Middleton High School Tigers basketball team’s trek to the “Glass House” came to an abrupt end on Monday, March 10, 2025, in its game against the Hillcrest High School Vikings of Memphis. Hillcrest closed out the home game and secured the win resulting from a determined basketball shot by Hillcrest senior Ja’coby Lewis (#0) just past the half court line with only 03.3 seconds remaining in the game. The final score was Hillcrest 37 and Middleton 36.
Middleton was first to put a score on the board with Hillcrest soon following. Hillcrest gained the lead and a three point shot by Jeremiah Woody (#13) kept the score close at the end of the first quarter with 11-14.
In the second quarter, Middleton closed the gap at 13-14 with 4:47 minutes remaining in the first half of the game. Savion Hoyle (#15) scored three points with 59.1 seconds remaining giving Middleton the lead at 17-16. Right before the end of the second quarter, Tamarcus Smith (#5) stood at the free throw line scoring one of two shots, which brought the score to 18-16 at halftime.
Middleton entered the third quarter earning the first points. With 2:09 minutes reaming, Tamarcus Smith (#5) again stood at the free throw line and his shots took the score to 26-23. Middleton moved the score to 28-26, which closed out the third quarter.

Unfortunately, missed free throw shots at the line prevented Middleton from widening the gap towards a win.
Although it was an evening, which ended in disappointment for the MHS Tigers team, the young men who played last night played hard and well in the game. Congratulations to the Middleton Tigers basketball team for its successful season, which ended with the team being named the 2025 Region Runner-Up.
