Obituary: Alma Lynette Smith Terry

Alma Lynette Smith Terry ~ March 4, 1944 – January 10, 2025 (age 80)

Alma Lynette Smith Terry, 80, passed away Friday, January 10, 2025, at Wellington Place in Jackson.

She was a native of Bolivar and daughter of the late Herman and Hazel Smith. Ms. Terry was a graduate of Whiteville High School and worked 30+ years as a Clerk III at Western Mental Health Institute, retiring in 2005. She also worked part-time 28 years in various departments, with her last position as a greeter at Walmart, retiring in 2018. She was a member of Parrans Chapel Baptist Church and enjoyed volunteering, reading, crafting, and making pecan pies for family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors Bolivar chapel on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 2 p.m. with Matt Boatwright officiating. The burial will be in the Parrans Chapel Baptist Cemetery in Bolivar.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan Welch (John) of Jackson and Teresa Padial (David) of Drasco, Arkansas; a son, Tony Terry (Paula) of Jackson; two step daughters, Shirl Sanders (Teddy) of Henderson and Gina Powers (Troy) of Middleton; two brothers, Wayne Smith (Deborah) of Michigan City, Indiana and Donald Smith of Martin, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Tyler Coats (Molly) of Henderson, Grey and Clayton Padial of Drasco, Arkansas, and Melanie Welch of Jackson, Tennessee; two great grandchildren, Jax Rahman of Jackson and Lukas Michel of Henderson; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lavon White and Faye Lester of Bolivar; and a brother, Dennis Smith of Cullman, Alabama. Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
