Bernell Jackson ~ October 20, 1932 – January 10, 2024, (age 89)

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Bernell Jackson, a beloved food service supervisor at Western Mental Health Institute for 16 years. Bernell’s life was filled with laughter, love, and an unwavering willingness to help others.

Born on October 20, 1932, in Hardeman County, Tennessee, to the late James William “Bub” Hudson and Nora Melvina Barnes Hudson, Bernell brought joy to everyone around her. She had a vibrant personality that could light up any room. Her infectious laughter and mischievous sense of humor made her a treasure to all who knew her. Bernell was known for making the best chocolate pies in town and could always be counted on to bring a smile to anyone’s face.

Bernell peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, with her family by her bedside in Bolivar, Tennessee. Her passing is deeply mourned by all those whose lives she touched.

Throughout her life, Bernell found great joy in her faith. She was a dedicated member of Hebron Baptist Church and loved the Lord with all her heart. She spent many years teaching Sunday school and Training Union, sharing her deep knowledge and love for God with others.

Bernell’s proudest accomplishments were not measured by worldly achievements but rather by the impact she had on others’ lives. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and support those in need. Bernell’s legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those she helped along the way.

Chapel services will be held at the Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 2 p.m. in Bolivar with burial in Hebron Cemetery.

In addition to leaving behind cherished memories with countless friends and community members, Bernell is survived by her loving family. She is survived by her children, Nancy White (Tom) of Middleton, Vickie Rainey of Middleton, J.D. Howell (Barbara) of Pocahontas, and Billy Jackson (Mary Nell) of Middleton.
