Obituary: Bernice Kirk Bass

Bernice Kirk Bass, 101, of Middleton, passed from this life on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at AHC of McNairy County in Selmer.
A lifelong resident of Hardeman County, Mrs. Bass was born on Saturday, February 16, 1924, to the late Jessie Kirk and Ora Galloway Kirk. She was married to Leroy Bass on January 6, 1945, and he preceded her in death on April 21, 2001. Mrs. Bass was a member of Porters Creek Church and worked at Harmon Auto for 28 years. She enjoyed gardening, mowing and working in the yard, but especially loved her great grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Norma Sue Vickers (Buddy) of Middleton; two brothers, James D. Kirk (Linda) of Middleton and Leon Kirk (Lottie) of Olive Branch, Mississippi; a sister in law, Tommie Sue Kirk of Middleton; two grandchildren, Amy Diane Frost and Bryan Lee Bass; two great grandchildren, Kylie Brook Frost and Khloe De Holden; a daughter-in-law, Dennie Bass of Rossville; nine nieces; and six nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ronnie Lee Bass; four brothers, C.W. Kirk, Frank Kirk, Wilbert Kirk, and Roy Kirk; a sister, Louise Leadford; and a sister-in-law, Velma Kirk.
Services will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors Middleton chapel on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 12 p.m. with the burial in the Reaves Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to Porters Creek Baptist Church.
