Billy Joe (Bill) Hodge ~ January 27, 2023 – October 21, 1939 (age 83)
Billy Joe (Bill) Hodge, 83, of Hornsby, passed from this life Friday, January 27, 2023, at his home.
Mr. Hodge was born on Saturday, October 21, 1939, in Hardeman County, son of the late Joe Richard Hodge and Gracie Lee Tigner Hodge, living all of his life here. He married Sue Harbin Hodge on November 11, 1962, in Corinth, Mississippi, and she preceded him in death on October 25, 2022. Mr. Hodge was retired as the owner of Hodge Trucking and also worked for Bolivar Sand Company, Whitehurst Lumber and Jervis (Harmon), and was a farmer.
He enjoyed gardening, tractor pulling, metal detecting, rabbit hunting, and camping. His family states he loved working, never wanting to sit still, but held his greatest love for his family. Mr. Hodge was a member of Hornsby Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be at Hatchie Cemetery on Monday, January 30, 2023, at 2 p.m. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar i in charge of professional arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters, Gail Marcum (Keith) of Bolivar, Beverly McLemore (Dennis) of Jackson, and Lee Brown (Red) of Hornsby; two sons, John Hodge (Jennifer) of Medon and Tony Hodge (Becky) of Savannah; twelve grandchildren, Kris Marcum, Kayla Kuroda (Derrick), Kara Marcum, Brian King (Macy), Jessica King, Emily and Kenley Mitchell, Morgan and Taylor McLemore, Mallory Mason (DJ), Macy Lowery, and Trevor Wilson; and 12 great grandchildren, Kale Marcum, Avery, Hannah and Jaxon King, Weston and Hudson Fisher, Carter Jo Mitchell, Luna Harwell, Malachi Pearson, Corey Dowty, Aubree Mason and Dane Kuroda. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kello Hodge; a sister, Mamie Pierce; a grandson, Jacob Dowty; a son, Billy Joe Hodge, Jr.; a stepdaughter, Wanda Robin Watson; and three grandchildren, Corey Hodge, Dalton Wilson, and Aiden Fisher.
Memorial contributions in his name may be sent to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
