Obituary: Billy Parks

Mr. Parks, age 93, of Bolivar, departed this life on Sunday morning, June 9, 2024, at his home. He was the widower of Margaret “Tootsie” Lax Parks, who passed away October 28, 2023.

He was born on Wednesday, April 8, 1931, in Fayette County, to the late Jesse Warren Parks and Dora Humphreys Parks. Mr. Parks married on September 30, 1953, after serving his country in Korea in the US Army where he received a purple heart. He was employed with Kraft Foods (which later was acquired by RJ Reynolds) for over 39 years as a line manager. After his career there, he worked as a carrier for First South Bank (now Simmons Bank) and was an automotive buyer for dealerships. He was a member of Middleburg Baptist Church and also Parks Chapel Methodist Church.

In his leisure time, Mr. Parks enjoyed being outdoors whether it was mowing, gardening or engaging in yearly tomato growing contests with his brother to see who could produce the first fruit of the season!

He leaves his daughter, Susan Parks Moore of Bolivar; his sister, Betty Jean Perry of Fayette County; grandchildren, Jonathan Moore (Tykira), Chelsey Parks (Joey) and, Richard Wilson; and great-grandchildren, Emma Wilson, Maci Wilson, Addison Moore, Eden Moore, Davin Joseph Parks, Jr. and Hadley Grace Parks.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Thomas Parks; grandchildren, Bethany Moore Wilson and Michael Singleton; and, siblings, Curtis Warren Parks, David Leon Parks, Mary Naomi Holden, Millard Ray Parks and Horace Quentin Parks.
