Obituary: Billy Ralph Dodds
Billy Ralph Dodds passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Misook;, a son, Bill, Jr., of Hixson, Tennessee; and sister-in-law, Joyce Dodds of Bartlett, Tennessee. Billy was preceded in death by his seven siblings, Louise Dodds Lambert, Charles (C.W.) William Dodds, Vernon Joe Dodds, Faye Dodds Louis, Darrell Dempsey Dodds, and Nadine Dodds Lehman.
Billy was born in Etta, Mississippi on Tuesday, September 14, 1937, to Effie Lee and Charles Thomas Dodds. He was educated at Memphis State University and Lake Forest University with BS and MBA degrees. He joined E.I. DuPont in 1960, lived in many different states and several other countries throughout his career, and retired in 1995 after 35 years of long service. In his life time, he witnessed the machine age, the automotive age, the jet age, the nuclear age, the computer age, and the beginning of the AI age.
Billy enjoyed sports, good friends, politics, and the economy. He was inducted to the Memphis Amateur Sports Hall of Fame for football in 1986. During the last 30 years of his life, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed a few rounds each week with his friends. And we know he is already making tee times for the next rounds.
Chapel services for Mr. Dodds will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 12 p.m. in Bolivar. The burial will follow in Bolivar Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive visitors for one hour prior to the service.
