Obituary: Billy Williams

Billy Williams ~ – September 7, 2024 (age 75)

Mr. Billy Williams, 75, of Toone, departed this life on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Christian Care Center in Bolivar. A memorial celebration and visitation will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

He was born in Memphis, the son of the late Raymond and Lily Beatrice Simms Williams and moved to Hardeman County 45 years ago. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Williams, and a brother, Joe Williams.

Mr. Williams worked as a truck driver for Simmons Logging in Brownsville, Tennessee. However, he was most proud to be a cowboy. He loved to run his cows and those at Massey Farms while riding his horses. Mr. Williams was known to be quite a good bullfighter, as well, and a rodeo clown where he was instrumental in helping maintain the safety of the competitors.

In his leisure time, Billy enjoyed fishing, hunting, and riding horses. He is described by his family as a real “people-person” – one who never met a stranger and enjoyed putting a smile on your face! Mr. Williams was well-loved and loved everyone around him. He especially loved being a grandpa to his six grandchildren.

He leaves his wife, Anita Williams of Toone, whom he married on June 1, 2012; his daughter, Melanie Williams (Trell Phillips) of Millington, Tennessee; his sons, “Little Bill” Williams (Annette) of Colorado and Brian Williams of Ellendale (Bartlett), Tennessee; step-sons, Wiley Capshaw and Brandon Miller, both of Michigan City, Mississippi; two brothers, Jimmy Williams (Myrtle) of Florida and, Jerry Williams of Memphis; nephew, Joey Williams of Memphis; and grandchildren, Morgan and Libbi Gale Miller, Anita Capshaw, Zay and Zaiden Phillips, and Alyssa Weatherly.

Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
