Obituary: Brenda Gray Blackard

Brenda Gray Blackard ~ June 3, 1947 – June 24, 2023 (age 76)

Brenda Gray Blackard, 76, of Bolivar, passed from this life Saturday, June 24, 2023, at her home.

Mrs. Blackard was born in Adamsville, the daughter of the late Thomas E. “Boots” Gray and Cora Marie Evans Gray. On April 17, 1965, she was united in marriage to Bobby Blackard, Sr. and lived in Memphis for 10 years prior to moving to Hardeman County over 45 years ago. She attended the Bolivar Church of God. She was a momma for many years but, on May 3, 1991, she became “Ninny”! Mrs. Blackard was a beautiful and precious woman with a bold, strong personality that lit up a room when she walked in. You always felt her love.

Funeral services will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors Middleton in the chapel on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at Reaves Cemetery.

Brenda leaves her husband of 58 years, Bobby Blackard, Sr. of West Monroe, Louisiana; four children, Tina Louise Blackard of Middleton, Nita Diane Blackard of Humboldt, Bobby Glen (Kim) Blackard, Jr. of Bolivar, and Mickie Glen Blackard of Marion, Louisiana; three sisters, Kay Rish and Becky Sawyer, both of Cayce, Mississippi, and Vicky Jones of Memphis; two brothers, Jeff (Aimee) Gray of Oakland, Tennessee and Van Gray of Memphis; 10 grandchildren, Dustin (Chesley) Downen, Dakota (Melody) Howell, Bradley Agee, Christopher Agee, Brianna Blackard, Grayson Diffee, Gregory Diffee, Mackenzie Keller, Kendall Owens, and Miranda Owens; and six great-grandchildren, Jacey and Blaine Downen, Hazelyn Howell, Eli Agee, Everett Diffee, and Jace Decker. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by siblings Joe Gray, twins, Jerry Gray (brother) and Terry Gray (sister), and Ricky Gray.
