Obituary: Carl D. Brown

Carl D. Brown, a devoted family man and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Somerville, Tennessee, on March 18, 2025. Born on May 17, 1943, in Bolivar, Tennessee, Carl’s journey through life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family and friends, the impact of which will be felt for generations to come.
Carl dedicated 38 years of his life to Troxel Manufacturing, a career, which showcased his strong work ethic and determination. Before that, he provided for his family while working at a local lumberyard in Halls, Tennessee, and in his earlier years, he toiled on a farm for Raymond Vaughan. Each of these experiences shaped the man he became, teaching him the values of hard work, resilience, and the importance of community.
Outside of his professional life, Carl was a vibrant spirit who cherished the simple pleasures. He loved riding four-wheelers and had a spirited past as a former boxer, which reflected his passion for life and competition. He was fond of watching boxing on television, often relishing the thrill of the sport. Many cherished memories were made on the porch, where Carl would sit, marveling at nature and enjoying the presence of his beloved family. His affinity for fishing brought him joy, and he found relaxation and tranquility in those moments by the water’s edge. Whether he was perfecting his aim during target practice or cultivating a vibrant garden, Carl always found happiness in activities that connected him to the world around him.
More than anything, Carl loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, holding each one dear to his heart. With a unique bond to each of them, Carl lovingly bestowed special nicknames that reflected his affection and the personal connection he shared. The love he showered upon his family will undoubtedly resonate in their lives forever, shaping their paths and imbuing them with the values he held dear.
A devout follower of the Baptist faith, Carl was also known for his role in helping build Shandy Baptist Church, a testament to his unwavering faith and dedication to his community. He will be remembered not only for his contributions but for his kindness and warmth that radiated to those fortunate enough to know him.
Services will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 11 a.m. in Bolivar. The burial will be in Somerville City Cemetery.
Carl is survived by his loving son, Carl Brown and his wife, Tabitha of Somerville; sister, Barbara Brazil of Walnut, Mississippi; and brother Gary and Juanita Brown of Williston. He is also survived by an expansive family of grandchildren, Amanda Kyser and Kenneth, Dustin and Jessica Brown, Eva Brown, Britney Davis and Kevin, Frankie Brown and Cynthia, Nick Brown and his girlfriend, Deanna, and Cheyenne Shubert; as well as great-grandchildren, Brian Reyes, William Kyser, Landon Brown, Tyler Kyser, Josie Brown, Skyla Kyser, Elizabeth Pepper, Ian Reyes, Bailey Pepper, Mia Brown, Carson Davis, Dana and Christian Brown, Levi Davis, Wes Brown, Harper Manley, Nicole and Austin Brown, Henry Kyser, and Jaylen Brown. His companion, Helen Shields, will also carry his memory close to her heart.
Carl was predeceased by his father, David Leroy Brown; mother, Jewell Dean Hurst Brown; wife, Eva Earnestine Brown; daughter, Shelia Holden; son, Clyde David Brown; sister, Margaret Fielding; and brother, Larry Thomas Brown. Though their physical presence may have departed, their memories and legacies will forever remain intertwined with his.
As we remember Carl D. Brown, let us celebrate a life rich in love, laughter, and lasting memories. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him, a guiding light illuminating the path for those who carry his cherished legacy forward.
