Obituary: Clarence Woods

Clarence Woods ~ May 26, 1946 – November 28, 2023 (age 77)

Mr. Clarence Woods was born on May 26, 1946, to the late Barry and Savannah Woods in Bolivar, Tennessee.

He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Green Grove Baptist Church in Whiteville, Tennessee. Clarence attended school in Bolivar, Tennessee, throughout his elementary and middle school years, and then moved to Florida to live with his older sister. He attended and graduated from Monrole High School. After high school, Clarence enlisted into the Air Force where he traveled and visited many states and countries. After retiring from the Air Force, Clarence settled down and created a home in Bolivar, Tennessee.

Clarence and Clara Woods were joined in Holy Matrimony on September 20, 1998. He attended New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Hickory, Tennessee. Clarence was a faithful member until his death, serving as a devoted deacon, and faithful member of the male choir.

Clarence joined the National Guard Army in Bolivar, Tennessee where he served for over 20 years until retirement. He also worked at Western Mental Health Hospital, Core Civic, and drove a school bus for the Hardeman County School System.

Clarence and Clara enjoyed the life they built together with children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and siblings.

Clarence departed this life on November 28, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Jackson Madison County Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his late mother and father, Berry and Savannah Woods; two sisters, Gertrude Herron and Missouri Wood Laird; six brothers, Percy Woods, Worley Woods, J. W. Woods, Sr., Jimmy Woods, Roosevelt Woods, and Lee Woods.

Left to cherish his loving memories is his beautiful wife, Clara Woods; seven children raised as his own, Dianne Crews, Evette Whitmore (Donald), and Beverly Bogard (Deangelo) all of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Fannie Ross of Smyrna, Tennessee, James Crews of Illinois, and Linda Crews and Earnest Crews both of Bolivar, Tennessee; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Clarence leaves his loving sisters, Catherine Pirtle (A.C. Pirtle) of Brownsville, Tennessee, Christine Posey of Jackson, Tennessee, and Mattie Smith of Bolivar, Tennessee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
