Obituary: Donnie “Outlaw” Outland

Donnie “Outlaw” Outland, a cherished member of the Hardeman County community, passed away peacefully at his home in Middleton, Tennessee, on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on June 26, 1957, in Humboldt, Tennessee, Donnie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who left an indelible mark on all who had the honor of knowing him.
Donnie’s life was rooted deeply in Hardeman County, where he spent most of his days, except for his time serving in the United States Army. His commitment to serving his country was a testament to his character and values, shaping him into the man that he became. After his military service, he went on to work for Dover Elevator in the metal fabricating department, a role that highlighted his strong work ethic and dedication.
A member of Hebron Baptist Church, Donnie embraced his faith, which served as a pillar of strength throughout his life. His love for the outdoors—the feel of the hush of the woods while hunting raccoons and rabbits, or the peaceful moments spent fishing—was only surpassed by the joy he found in nurturing his family and garden. Donnie had a warm and playful spirit; he loved playing cards and often teased his family with light-hearted jokes, filling their lives with laughter and love.
His devotion to his family was profound. He took great pride in his children—Felicia Outland Woods and Dennis “Buck” Woods of Middleton, Kristi Wilbanks and Daniel, of Walnut, Mississippi and D.J. Outland and Kayla, of Middleton, as they were the treasures of his heart. However, it was his grandchildren, 11 in total, and his 10 great-grandchildren who truly held a special place in his heart. They brought him immense joy and laughter, and he cherished every moment spent with them, creating memories that will be forever treasured.
Donnie will be remembered with love by his beloved wife, Sherry McKee Outland, whom he married on September 5, 1980, and who was his partner through thick and thin. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Sudbery and James of Middleton; and his brother, James “Jim” Outland and Stefani, of Middleton, both of whom held a special bond with him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. Outland and Hazel Mary Chiles Outland, and his sister, Margaret Welch. Their memories will live on in the stories shared and the love that they passed down through generations.
Chapel services will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 2 p.m. in Bolivar with the burial in Hebron Cemetery.
Though he may have departed from this world, Donnie “Outlaw” Outland’s spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will carry on through the generations. Donnie will be deeply missed but forever cherished. Memorial contributions in his name may be sent to the American Cancer Society or the American Legion Post #2949, 323 East Market Street, Bolivar, Tennessee 38008.
