Obituary: Elizabeth “Betty” Tipler Capps

Elizabeth “Betty” Tipler Capps ~ March 2, 1934 – January 14, 2023 (age 88)

Elizabeth “Betty” Tipler Capps, 88, passed away on January 14, 2023. Betty was born on March 2, 1934, in Grand Junction, Tennessee, to R.S. and Ida Knox Tipler. She graduated from Grand Junction High School, attended Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, and on June 19, 1953, married George Edward Capps, Jr. Together they had three children, Paul, Linda, and John. Mrs. Capps was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and homemaker, a dedicated member of her church, a Sunday school teacher, and a selfless volunteer in her church and community. She was preceded in death by her
parents, her husband, and a grandson, Andrew Capps. In addition to her children, she is survived by her grandchildren Stephanie Capps Stern (William), Knox Bloodworth (April), and Will Bloodworth; her daughter-in-law, Nancy B. Capps, and her much loved cousins Joan T. Penn of Pickens, South Carolina and Becky T. Todd of Humboldt, Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Grand Junction First Baptist Church, 134 Washington Avenue, Grand Junction, Tennessee 38039. The family would like to thank the truly wonderful caregivers at The Villages of Murfreesboro and Shalom Hospice of Tennessee.

A graveside service was held at Grand Junction Cemetery, Grand Junction, Tennessee on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at 1 p.m. A memorial service was held at Judson Baptist Church, 4900 Franklin Road, Nashville, Tennessee, 37220 on Friday, January 20, 2023, at 12 p.m. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar were in charge of local arrangements.
