Obituary: Elizabeth Jeannette Childress

Elizabeth Jeannette Childress ~ April 30, 1940 – May 3, 2024 (age 84)

Elizabeth Jeannette Childress, a.k.a., Bugg, Moma, Aunt Jane, and Mammaw Jeannette, a beloved soul who touched the lives of many with her charm and warmth, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024, in Senatobia, Mississippi. Born on April 30, 1940, in Bolivar, Tennessee, Elizabeth led a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments.

In her professional journey, Elizabeth dedicated herself to the accounting departments of Holiday Inn and TruGreen Chemlawn. Her dedication and hard work left a lasting impact on all those she worked with throughout the years.

Beyond her career, Elizabeth was known for her vibrant personality and passions. She adored her family above all else and found joy in sewing, tending to flowers and plants, and diving into the depths of a good book. Her tales of smoking “rabbit tobacco” as a child, making muscadine wine with her sister, and speaking her mind freely endeared her to everyone she met. However, she held a strong dislike for snakes and Friday the 13th – quirks that only added to her unique character.  She was raised Baptist, married into the Church of Christ, and left this world headed home to Heaven, saved by Jesus.

She was a sweet moma to two children who survive, John Childress (Melony) and Joy England; a grandmother to Josh Childress (Amanda), Jason Childress (Kelly), Jake England (Maddie), and Drake England (Ashlea); great grandmother to Lexi, Camden, OC, Hyni, Cohen, John Sawyer, and baby C (due in June 2024).  She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Ruth Sneed; a sister, Rebecca Weeks; a brother, Ted Sneed; a grandchild, Cody Childress; and a great grandchild, Faith Lynn Childress.

A graveside service to honor Elizabeth’s life will take place at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Bolivar on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 1 p.m. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar are in charge of professional arrangements.

Elizabeth’s spirit will continue to shine brightly through the memories she created with those who knew her best. She will forever be remembered for her love of life and unwavering devotion to family. May she rest in peace knowing she was dearly cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
