Obituary: Emma Dean Pipkin

Emma Dean Pipkin ~ April 30, 1937 – October 5, 2023 (age 86)

Emma Dean Pipkin, 86, of Bartlett, passed away early on Thursday morning, October 5, 2023, at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis.  

She was born in Middleton on April 30, 1937, to the late Scott Howell and Minnie Sisco Howell. After her schooling, she married Mr. Edward E. Pipkin on November 5, 1955, and, shortly afterwards, moved to Memphis where she lived for over 60 years. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by four sisters, Louise Doyle, Georgia Smith, Sue McKelvey, and Margarette Brumbelow; and a brother, Earnest Howell.

Mrs. Pipkin was a long-time member of the Church of Christ and in her leisure time enjoyed sewing and quilting. In her younger years, she was known for her cooking skills, particularly her “lily-white” biscuits.

She leaves her husband of almost 68 years, Edward E. Pipkin of Bartlett; her son, Michael E. Pipkin (Jana) of Lakeland; one brother, Bill Howell of Middleton; three grandchildren, Christopher M. Pipkin, Amy Mechelle Hubbard (Kyle), and Haley Nicole Lipscomb (Brandon); and four great-grandchildren, Annabella Gibbs, Paisley Hubbard, Ezra, and Eliza Lipscomb.

Graveside services will be held at the Reaves Cemetery on Tuesday, October 10, 223, at 3:30 p.m. Shackelford Funeral Directors are in charge of the services.

Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.
