Eva C. Sain ~ April 15, 1926 – September 15, 2023 (age 97)
Eva C. Sain, a retired manager with Nat T. Winston Developmental Center in Bolivar, peacefully passed away on September 15, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 15, 1926, in Hardeman County, Tennessee. Mrs. Sain was a beloved member of the community and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Throughout her career at Nat T. Winston Developmental Center, where she dedicated herself from 1957 to 1988, Eva showed immense professionalism and a deep commitment to serving others. Her hard work and dedication made a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals.
Eva’s passions extended far beyond her professional life. She took great joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cherishing their presence during family gatherings; these moments held great significance for her. In addition to her love for family, Eva had a green thumb and delighted in growing beautiful roses. She also found solace in reading the Bible alongside her loved ones, finding comfort and inspiration within its pages.
Beyond her personal interests, Eva was an active member of various community organizations including the Middleton Senior Citizens Club, Middleton Homemakers Club, Hardeman County Garden Club, and Middleton Art League. Her involvement in these clubs allowed her to pursue her passions alongside like-minded individuals who shared her love for artistic expression and horticulture.
Eva C. Sain was preceded in death by both of her parents: Gaston Crawford (father) and Etta Barrow Crawford (mother); as well as her husband, Lenon V. Sain; a great-grandson, Dalton Wilson; five sisters, Dot, Jo, Beck, Mildred, and Marie; and five brothers, Everette, Clyde, Dude, and two who passed away when they were young. Although their loss brought immense grief into Eva’s life, she carried their memory in her heart every day.
Eva leaves behind a legacy built on love and cherished memories that will be forever treasured by those closest to her. She is survived by her loving daughter, Sandra Harris (Jerry), and her beloved daughter, Charlene Sipes (Lynn). Additionally, she is survived by her son, John G. Sain, Sr., (Gay Pierce), who will honor his mother’s memory for years to come.
Eva held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren: John Sain, Jr. (Candace), Scotty Harris (Jennifer), Jason Harris, Jennifer Hodge (John), and Gina Horne (Chris). Their presence brought her immense joy and pride. Furthermore, Eva took great delight in the company of her great-grandchildren: Justin Sain (Paige), Jonathan Sain (Taylor), Lydia Sain, Tiffany Adams (Dawson), Ashley Hopper (James), Dylan Stewart, Adrianne Horne, Austin Horne, and Trevor Wilson. Eva’s legacy carries on through the love and memories shared with these nine great-great-grandchildren, as well as the three additional great-great-grandchildren who are on their way.
To honor Eva C. Sain’s life and mourn her passing, visitation services will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors located at 201 South Main Street in Middleton, Tennessee on September 18, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Following the visitation will be a funeral service held at the same location from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Lastly, a graveside service will take place at Middleton City Cemetery located at 300 South Main Street in Middleton, Tennessee from 3:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the same day.
Eva C. Sain was a remarkable woman whose life touched so many hearts within her family and community. She will forever be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all those whose lives she brightened. Her memory will live on through the stories shared and the love that continues to be cherished by her surviving family and friends. Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to the Middleton Church of Christ Library or the charity of the donor’s choice.
In this time of mourning, may we find solace in the memories of Eva’s vibrant life and take comfort in knowing that she has found eternal peace. May her soul rest in everlasting serenity.
