Obituary: Evangelist LaReace Vernett Bolden
Evangelist LaReace Vernett Bolden, a cherished teacher, administrator, and mentor who transitioned peacefully on Monday, December 30, 2024. Born to Ellis A. Bolden and Lucy Bolden Mays, LaReace was a pillar of strength, wisdom, and inspiration to all who knew her.
A proud graduate of the Fayette-Ware High School Class of 1974, LaReace dedicated her life to education. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from The University of Tennessee at Martin in 1982, a Master of Education from Trevecca Nazarene University in 1988, and an Education Specialist degree from Freed-Hardeman University in 2006. These accomplishments were the foundation of her extraordinary career as a passionate educator and leader.
LaReace began her professional journey as a math and English teacher at Central Elementary School and Middleton Middle School, where she ignited a love for learning in her students. She later served as assistant principal at Fayette-Ware Comprehensive High School, where her leadership and vision brought transformative achievements. She was instrumental in Fayette-Ware’s recognition as a SCORE Prize finalist and its first designation as a REWARD school, a testament to her unwavering commitment to academic excellence.
Her dedication extended beyond the classroom and administrative offices. LaReace received numerous accolades during her career, including perfect attendance, reflecting her steadfast commitment to her profession. She retired from the Fayette County School System in 2011 after decades of tireless service and continued to share her expertise as an education consultant for over five years, leaving an indelible mark on educators and students alike.
LaReace’s vibrant personality was as unforgettable as her professional accomplishments. She loved socializing, traveling, and celebrating life in every shade of purple, her favorite color. Her warmth, energy, and sense of humor made her a joy to be around, and her mentorship extended to an “infinite number of children and adults” whom she inspired throughout her life.
Faith was a cornerstone of LaReace’s life. She joined Fredonia Baptist Church in Stanton, Tennessee, at an early age and later became a devoted member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Somerville, Tennessee. She also proudly served as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Queen Easter #66.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication. She is survived by her beloved granddaughter, Caileigh Rose McGowan; two Godsons, Jayden Givhan and Jordan Owens; her devoted aunt, Dianne (Willie) Turner; her adopted children, Wysteria (Christopher) McGowan and Dr. Brian Davis; a host of cousins; countless friends; colleagues; and students who were touched by her generosity and wisdom.
LaReace Vernett Bolden will forever be remembered as an exemplary educator and administrator who embodied excellence in every endeavor. Her impact on Education and her community will be felt for generations to come.
Rest in peace, LaReace, faithful servant, and beacon of light.

Arrangements entrusted to J. A. Lofties Funeral Home, Somerville, Tennessee. Internment will be at the Bolden Cemetery.
A visitation will be held at Lofties Funeral Home, 112 East North Street, Somerville, Tennessee, 38068 on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
