Obituary: Frances Imogene (Gene) Shearon

Frances Imogene (Gene) Shearon ~ October 21, 1931 – October 29, 2022 (age 91)

Imogene Shearon (Gene), 91 years of age, passed away on October 29, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville, Tennessee. Born in Silerton, Tennessee, Mrs. Shearon lived in Hardeman County for 86 years before moving to Memphis, Tennessee where she was a member of Germantown Baptist Church, Germantown, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Howard W. Shearon, of Grand Junction, Tennessee.

Gene attended Bolivar Central High School, where she excelled as a point guard on the basketball team. Her true passion was being a farmer’s wife and mother. One of her greatest joys was creating a loving home for her family. She enjoyed working in her yard and tending her garden. Gene was known for her elaborate Christmas decorations and loved opening her home during the Christmas season. She was a fantastic cook and lovingly used those skills to serve those around her, and at family gatherings. Gene was an active member of the Hardeman County Farm Bureau and served as the women’s chairman for many years. Her involvement in the Ruritan Club and the National Bird Dog Foundation kept her busy and known all over town.

Gene was a member of First Baptist Church, Grand Junction, Tennessee for over 60 years, serving on many committees and volunteering wherever there was a need. She loved her Lord, Jesus Christ and wanted her family and those around her to love Him, as well. In addition to her husband, Gene is preceded in death by her parents, Burdon and Ima Hopper of Silerton, Tennessee; her sister, Phyllis Hopper Naylor of Silerton, Tennessee; and her grandson, Daniel W. Babian of Tampa, Florida. She is survived by her sister, Vonda Hopper Siler of Silerton, Tennessee.

In addition, Gene is survived by her four children and their spouses, Dennis W. and Diana Shearon (North Little Rock, Arkansas), Amy Shearon Harper and Coby (Sevierville, Tennessee), Julie Shearon Babian and Edgar (Germantown, Tennessee), and Robert H. and Shannon Shearon (Collierville, Tennessee); three grandsons, Matthew W. Shearon (Emily) of Oakland, California, Coby Van Harper II (Hannah) of Sevierville, Tennessee; and Nathan A. Babian (Jessica) of Portland, Oregon; three granddaughters, Katherine L. Shearon (Los Angeles, California), Parker F. Shearon and Margaret T. Shearon (Collierville, Tennessee), and six great-grandchildren, Howard and Rosemary Shearon, Sophie, Logan and Wesley Babian, and Mary Michael Harper.

Services for Mrs. Shearon will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel in Bolivar, Tennessee on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 1 p.m. A visitation will be held prior from 11 a.m. until the start of the service. Burial will follow at Bolivar Memorial Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church of Grand Junction, Tennessee.
