Horace Frank Allen ~ July 10, 1949 – October 31, 2022 (age 73)
Horace Frank Allen passed away on Monday October 31, 2022, in Detroit, Michigan. He was born July 10, 1949, to Jessie and Ellyne Allen in Hickory Valley. He was the second of 13 children.
Horace’s funeral service was held on Sunday November 13, 2022, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at 1 p.m. with Pastor Arthur McKinnie in charge. Burial was in the church cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home was in charge of the professional service.
He grew up in a God fearing family and accepted Christ as his savior at an early age at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
Horace’s parents, Jessie and Ellyne, and siblings, Plummer Charles Allen, Benjamin Allen, Emma Allen, and Sheris Allen, preceded him in death.
He received his education in the Hardeman County School system in Whiteville. After graduating from Allen White High School, he later enlisted into the United States Army where he served in Vietnam. After leaving the Army, he relocated to Detroit, Michigan and embarked on a new career path.
Horace learned the skill of plumbing while working with companies Pinkerman and Supreme Plumbing. He eventually went into business for himself becoming a master at the plumbing craft. As an entrepreneur, Horace worked hard and built a reputation that ensured his skills remained in high demand throughout the years. He never turned a customer away and he unselfishly shared his knowledge of plumbing with others. Because of this, he made a big name for himself and acquired many lifelong friends.
Horace met Jackie Gulley in the year 1978. They were together 28 years and raised two beautiful children, Theresa Gulley and Tyrone (Senta) Gulley. Jackie preceded him in death in 2006.
Horace made his transition on Monday, October 31, 2022 at 3 a.m., leaving all of us who loved him with many heartfelt memories to cherish.
He is survived by his sisters, Jessie (LT) Boyle, Mary (Samuel) Allen, Joyce (McKinley) Spight, Kazel Allen, Carol Allen, Elaine Allen, and Chelsea Parham; brother, Vincent (Janie) Allen; sister in law, Ellie Bess Allen; best friends, Oscar and Jennie Polk; and his longtime special friend, Shirley Collins, along with a host of grandchildren, great grand children, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
