Obituary: John Edmond Russell

John Edmond Russell ~ February 23, 1940 – April 2, 2024 (age 84)

John Edmond Russell, 84 left for his heavenly home on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, in Collierville, Tennessee after a brief stay at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House.  Services will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 11 a.m. with burial in the Reaves Cemetery near Middleton.

John was born on February 23, 1940, the fifth child of Marlett C. Russell and Nettie Lee (Jones) Russell in Middleton, Tennessee.

After graduation at Middleton High School, he moved to Memphis, Tennessee to pursue training for his lifelong career as an electrician. His jobs offered him the opportunity to live briefly in Bermuda and Panama.  

On March 17, 1961, John married Beverly Faye Harrell in Bolivar, Tennessee. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather.

Until his retirement to Bolivar Tennessee, John attended and served as a deacon at Elliston Baptist Church in Memphis.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, planting a garden, and archery. He was funny and witty and always willing to tell stories of old, that would leave those listening with laughter and a smile. John was kind and generous and helped anyone in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marlett and Nettie Russell; his wife, Beverly Faye Russell; his daughter, Micheal Ann Ryan; granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Ryan; brothers, Raymond and Lanoe Russell; and sisters. Odell Russell and Shirley Marsh.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Diana Conner (Keith) and Amy McCall (Sheldon); grandchildren, Amanda Crews, Maribeth Harris, Megan Ryan, Shelby McCall, Danielle Ryan, Johnathan McCall, and Linda Sewell; five great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and many family friends. Memorial contributions in his name may be sent to the Baptist Children’s Home or the ALS Association.
