John Russell (John R.) Harris ~ March 1, 1934 – November 20, 2022 (88)
John Russell (John R.) Harris, 88, of Hickory Valley, passed from this life Sunday morning, November 20, 2022, at Christian Care Center in Bolivar.
The husband of Marjorie Ann Green Harris, whom he married on January 20, 1957, in Hernando, Mississippi, he was retired from the State Department of Transportation as a Right of Way agent, working 39 years. He also was a cattle farmer. He was born March 1, 1934, in Hardeman County, son of the late Joseph John Harris and Lucy Russell Sanders Harris, living in Shelby County a short time, but spent the majority of his life here. Mr. Harris loved to drive his tractor and ride on his gator to check on his cattle, but received his greatest fulfillment from being around his family, who were his reason for living. His wife of 65 years was the love of his life and their son, Russ, was their world. Mr. Harris loved God and his church and his extended family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of Grand Junction First United Methodist Church and also attended First Baptist Church in Grand Junction.
Services are at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel in Bolivar at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2022. Burial will be in Grand Junction Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home in Bolivar.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Darlene Shelton (Rocky) of Franklin; a son, W. Scott Harris (Christy) of Hickory Valley; four grandchildren, Blake
Shelton (Annah), Allie Casper (Brendan), Garrett Wilson and Preston Holland; and three great grandchildren, Adalynn and Harrison Shelton and Evans Casper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Russell “Russ” Harris, Jr. in 2012 and a brother, Harry Joseph Harris in 2005.
Memorial contributions in his name may be sent to the Parkinson’s Foundation or Grand Junction Cemetery.
