Obituary: Larry Butts – Bolivar, Tennessee
Larry Butts was born in 1950 in Batesville, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Darthula Butts, his sister Linda, and his wife, Jackie. Mr. Butts accepted Jesus as his personal savior at 16 years old. He married Jackie when he was 22 and remained married to her for 50 years. Mr. Butts said many times he wished he could outlive her by just five minutes. It turned out to be just 84 days.
Mr. Butts had two careers. He joined the Navy when he was 18 and spent 22 years as a proud sailor and retired as a senior chief. Jackie was always right beside him in some function whether he was at home or away on sea duty. During those years, he received his associates, bachelors, and master degrees. This led to his second career, which was a 22 year career as a teacher at State Tech and Southwest Community College, teaching in their Business Section. Jackie would often be found driving Dad to and from work on their two hour commute.
Retirement brought church, friends, and some travel before various illnesses forced them to take care of each other. They could not be separated in life any more than they can in death.
Services are at Shackelford’s chapel in Middleton at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 25, 2022. Burial is in Middleton City Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in his name can be made to the First Baptist Church of Pocahontas.
