Obituary: Lester Gene McCarter
Lester Gene McCarter, 84, of Middleton, passed away Saturday afternoon September 7, 2024, at his home. Chapel services will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Middleton on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 1 p.m. with the burial in the Middleton City Cemetery.
He was the son of the late Paul Jennings McCarter, Sr. and Alice Maurine Davis McCarter, and lived all his life in the Middleton area. In September 1960, he took the former Dorothy Nell Earnest as his wife. She departed her earthly life on April 5, 2000. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Faye Rhodes and Maye Adams; and a brother, Paul Jennings McCarter, Jr.
He leaves a daughter, Donna (Donald) Henson of Middleton; a son, Mickey McCarter of Middleton; a grandson, Justin Henson of Middleton; a sister, Connie (Mark Johnson) Jackson of Middleton; a stepson, Kenneth Pipkin of Middleton; and three step-grandchildren, Kelly May of Selmer, Kristy Patterson, and Jason Pipkin, both of Middleton.
For 65 years, he owned and operated his own plumbing and electric business. Even when not working, he was still “on the job” whether it was working in his shop or running his backhoe. He enjoyed making periodic trips to the river with his family and he is remembered by each of them as a great father.
Memorials may be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.
