Obituary: Margie Bell Porter Burnette

In loving memory of Margie Bell Porter Burnette, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who departed this world on Friday, July 12, 2024, in Bolivar, Tennessee. Margie was born on June 2, 1932, in the serene of Middleton, Tennessee. She was a compassionate individual who dedicated her life to caring for others as a certified nursing assistant at Western Mental Health Institute before her well-deserved retirement in April 1994. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her career as she wholeheartedly embraced the role of a homemaker.

Margie will always be remembered for her love of gardening and flowers, finding solace in the blossoms she tended to with care. Alongside her passion for nature, she found great joy in studying the Bible and strengthening her faith. Her unwavering devotion to her family was evident in everything she did. Margie cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A deeply spiritual woman, Margie was a member of Rocky Springs Baptist Church where she found community and solace. Her profound faith in the Lord shone through in all aspects of her life. Margie touched countless lives with her kindness and generosity; offering prayers that were undoubtedly felt by those fortunate enough to know her. She loved her family and was the best Mama and Granny. Margie also was “Granny” to many who were not kin, but she loved them just the same. She loved the Lord above all and has longed for heaven for some time now. Margie was very strong in her faith and when she told you she was praying for you, she definitely would. She was an inspiration to those who knew her.

Services will be at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at 3 p.m. in Bolivar with the burial in the West Memorial Cemetery.

She leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever be cherished by her surviving family and friends that include, Glen Burnette and Tammy of Saulsbury (son), Mark Burnette and Carol of Saulsbury (son), Paul Burnette of Saulsbury (son), and Lisa Burnette Hunsucker of Middleton (daughter); Misty and Sandy Burnette (daughter-in-laws); Zueline Porter Brooks of Pocahontas (sister); along with 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Margie is now reunited with her beloved husband Robert Stanton Burnette in eternal peace. She also joins her sons, Neal Burnette, Larry Burnette, Ronnie Burnette, Ken Burnette, son-in-law David Hunsucker, Cecil Porter (brother), Jamie Porter (brother), Bo Porter (brother), Willie Mae Lanier (sister), Lillian Lanier (sister), Phyllis Hillhouse (sister), and Thomas Brandon Burnette (grandchild) who have gone before her.
