Obituary: Nancy Jean Guthrie Brint

Nancy Jean Guthrie Brint ~ January 9, 1943 – December 23, 2023 (age 80)

Nancy Jean Guthrie Brint, 80, of Bolivar, departed this life Saturday, December 23, 2023, at NHC HealthCare Franklin in Franklin, Tennessee.

Nancy was a 1961 graduate of Messick High School in Memphis, Tennessee, where she was a cheerleader and member of Sigma Sigma social sorority. She graduated with her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Lambuth College in Jackson, Tennessee in 1965. While attending Lambuth, Nancy was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi social sorority, along with various other clubs and civic groups. She also met her husband, George Brint, while attending Lambuth, and they were married on June 2, 1965, immediately following her college graduation.

Nancy and George settled in Hardeman County where they worked and raised their three children. For 19 years, Nancy was a school teacher in Hardeman and Madison County’s school systems; however, the majority of her adult life was spent in her favorite roles of mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Nancy was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and served as a docent for the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities’ (APTA) various historical treasures located in Hardeman County. She and George were members of Bolivar First United Methodist Church, Bolivar First Baptist Church, and Hornsby Baptist Church at various times throughout their 53-year marriage prior to George’s passing in February 2019. Nancy was a talented singer, and she enjoyed sharing her gift of music as an act of worship and ministry.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Barnes Guthrie Poe and Tate Guthrie (who died prior to her birth), as well as her stepfather, Calip Poe.  She is also preceded in death by her brother, Dewey (Sonny) Guthrie, and sister, Bobbie Guthrie Kleiboer.  She is survived by her children: Blaine (Jenni) Brint of Birmingham, AL; Amanda (Trevor) Bullion of Brentwood, TN; and Courtney (Tim) Burnette of Jackson, TN. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Mary-Tate (Cody) Holder of Columbia, TN; Parker (Corrina) Bullion of Columbia, TN; Emma Bullion of Brentwood, TN; Sophie (Ted) Wages of Fayetteville, NC; Mason Brint of Birmingham, AL; Chloe Burnette and Camille Burnette of Jackson, TN.

A memorial service celebrating Nancy’s life is being held on Thursday, December 28, at 11:00 a.m. Shackelford Funeral Home in Bolivar, TN, with visitation immediately preceding the service at 10:00 a.m.  The family has requested no flowers be sent; rather, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association would be greatly appreciated.
