Nell Dixon Holland ~ March 18, 1936 – May 6, 2023 (age 87)
Nell Dixon Holland, 87, of Saulsbury, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023, at her home.
The widow of John F. “Frank” Holland, who died in 2007 after 49 years of marriage, she was retired as a title clerk, having worked over 40 years. Some of the places she worked were Union Planters Bank in Memphis, Navy Federal Credit Union in Marietta, Georgia, and Jacksonville, Florida, Pawpaw’s Campers in Picayne, Mississippi, and Rainbow Oldsmobile in Harvey, Louisiana. Mrs. Holland was born on March 18, 1936, in Saulsbury, daughter of the late L.D. and Mary Johnson Dixon. She married Frank on October 14, 1958, and lived in Memphis, New Jersey, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and Louisiana prior to moving back here in 2006.
Mrs. Holland was known as a hard worker, mowing her yard well into her 80s and doing painting around her house. She was extremely organized, and her family describes her as always trying to help others. Mrs. Holland’s grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and her daughter was her best friend. She even had a comic book named after her. Mrs. Holland was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church where she did a little bit of everything.
Services are at New Bethel Baptist Church on Thursday, May 11, 2023, 1 p.m. with John Kirk officiating. Burial was in Ramer Cemetery. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar were in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her children, John F. Holland, Jr. of Pearl River, Louisiana, Kenneth B. Holland of Gretna, Louisiana, and Elizabeth C. Holland of Saulsbury; a sister, Mary Alice Spencer of Collierville; and two grandchildren, Sean Miller of Plattsmouth, Nebraska and Shannon Payan of Corona, California. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Patrick Holland; two brothers, Robert Junior Dixon and Troy Dale Dixon; and a sister, Maxine Russell.
Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
