Obituary: Pastor Dennis Wade Black

Pastor Dennis Wade Black ~ January 11, 1955 – May 4, 2024 (age 69)

Dennis Wade Black, of Bolivar, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, at age 69.

Born January 11, 1955, in Youngstown, Ohio, he was the middle son of the late Allen B. Black and Dorothy Jean Black. The family moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania where he and his brothers grew up and went to school. Dennis was an avid sports fan and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing sports with his children and grandchildren.

Upon graduation from Penn Manor High School, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in 1972, Dennis attended Millersville Sate College. He graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor’s Degree in English.

In September of 1979, Dennis met the love of his life, Kerry Eileen Neville of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. The couple were married on May 23, 1981.

Dennis accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior in 1984 and, a few years later, answered the call to preach. He attended Pensacola Bible Institute in Pensacola, Florida and graduated in 1994 with his Bachelor of Divinity and license to preach. Dennis became the pastor of Bible Baptist Church of Bolivar in the fall of 1994 and, pastored there for 30 years.

Church services will be held at Bible Baptist Church on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 1 p.m. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar are in charge of the professional arrangements.

Dennis is survived by Kerry, his wife of 43 years; their children, Wade (Kim) Black of Whiteville, Tessa (Donny) Shurtz of Finger, Tennessee, Liam (Megan) Black of Kiefer, Oklahoma, Fiona (Robert) Studebaker of Winchester, Virginia, Asa Black of Camp Meeker, California, and Rose Black of Jackson; brothers, Preston (Christina) Black and David (Susan) Black, both of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren, Kiley, Gavin, Luke, Eian, Jett, Judah, Asher, Emma, Naomi, Johanna, Bonnie, Nathan, Robert, and one on the way; and great-grandchildren, Kinsey and Kady.
