Obituary: Phyllise Jane Hayden
Phyllise Jane Hayden, age 71, resident of Whiteville, Tennessee and wife of Billy Hayden, departed this life Friday, December 22, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Mrs. Jane was born on August 6, 1952 in Covington, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Jesse “JC” Curry Gray and Verna Mae Conlee Gray. She received her education in the Fayette County School System and then began her career as a Tennessee State Highway Patrol Trooper. She was one of the first women in the state of Tennessee to become a trooper on the road. She later stepped away from patrolling the roads and became the Hearing Office Admin Judge for the Tennessee State Highway Patrol.
After over 30 years of service, she retired to begin her most honored position as Nana to her grandson, Spencer. He was her pride and joy. She became Nana to all of his friends and she was most excited when he met the love of his life, Jody. Being a part of his wedding this year was a highlight in her life.
Mrs. Jane was a member of the Arlington Assembly of God Church and enjoyed spending time with her family, doing crafts, sewing, and cake decorating. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed trips to the Smoky Mountains with her sister.
Mrs. Jane is survived her husband of 53 years, Billy Hayden; her son, Shane Hayden and his wife, Misty; her grandson, Spencer, and his wife, Jody; her sister, Janette Ashford, and her husband, Mike; her brother, Billy Gray; as well as a host of nieces; nephews; and fur grand babies, “SJ, Maverick, and Sunny”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Mae McClinton and Mary McClinton; and her precious dog, Buddy.
A visitation for Mrs. Jane will be at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Memorial Services will be at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. with Brother David Reeves, pastor of Midway Baptist Church in Whiteville, officiating.
