Obituary: Ronald Jay Adelman

Ronald Jay Adelman ~ July 18, 1946 – May 10, 2023 (age 76)

Ronald Jay Adelman, 76, of Bolivar, passed from this life Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

The husband of Peggy Rainey Adelman, who survives, he retired in May of 2013, from the Tennessee State Department of Education as a fiscal consultant. Mr. Adelman also worked over 20 years at Western Mental Health Institute as the comptroller. He was born Thursday, July 18, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa, son of the late Richard M. and Dorothy Jean Walters Adelman and received his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Memphis State. Mr. Adelman kept the books for the Lion’s Club little league and enjoyed attending all the grandkids and great-grandkids activities. He was always doing projects, having built an airboat and canoe, and was currently working on a wrap-around deck. Mr. Adelman loved his dogs, Ava, Ella and Mazy, and his cats, Socks, Piper, and Trouble. He was always known to open his home to many people over the years that needed a place to stay. Mr. Adelman was a member of Parrans Chapel Baptist Church.

Memorial services were at Parrans Chapel Baptist Church on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 12 p.m. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar were in charge of professional arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Peggy Rainey Adelman of Bolivar; children, Amber E. Jackson (Everett) of Dunlap, Tennessee, Michael McMahan (Christy) of Bolivar, and Alicia McMahan (Billy) of Middleton; a brother, Richard M. Adelman, II (Vicky) of Madrid, Spain; a sister, Dorothy Kerman (Cynthia) of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, Kyndle Gowdy (Adam), Brittany Curry, Brandon Bishop, Griffin Moore, C.J. McMahan, Abby Bishop, Reece McMahan, and Jackson Kell; and great grandchildren, Kaveon Curry and E.J. Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John W. Adelman; and an infant grandchild, Chase Alexander Jackson.
