Obituary: Sara Harris

Sara Harris, a beloved homemaker and devoted family member, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, in Bolivar, Tennessee, at the age of 94. Born on May 8, 1931, in Panola County, Mississippi, Sara brought joy and warmth to who knew her.

She spent her life dedicated to her family, always finding time for sewing projects and creating over 300 delightful puppets that brought smiles to her loved ones. Her deep affection for her grandchildren was evident, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Sara was known for her sweet disposition and kind spirit, always ready to lend a hand or share a word of encouragement.

In 2012, Sara moved to Hardeman County, having previously made her home in Shelby County. She was a valued member of First Baptist Church Middleton, where she found community and fellowship.

Sara is survived by her daughter, Sharon Johnson and J. Michael of Middleton; her son, Michael Harris and Sandra of Germantown; her grandchildren, Alan Harris and Karie, Audrey Hodge and Greg, Christina Bicknell and Curt, Jason McFarland, Jared McFarland and DeDe, Wynne Jordan-Keas, Alec Johnson, Barbara Hegarty, and Rory; as well as her great-grandchildren, Madison, Morgan, and Dylan Hodge, Emma Bicknell, Quinn and Declan Hegarty, Brooke and Brody Harris, Eli McFarland, and Alex, Robyn, and Margaret Jordan, Daniel, J.J. and Cristiana Keas. Sara’s legacy continues through her family, who will carry her memory in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Bartlett Harris; her parents, Lois Harold Anthony and Elsie Flowers Anthony; and three sisters and three brothers.

A visitation in her honor will be held on February 6, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar. Sara will then be interred at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Memphis.

Sara Harris lived a life rich in love and kindness, and she will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched. Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.
