Obituary: Shem Leon Smith – Grand Junction, Tennessee

Shem Leon Smith -~April 5, 1954 – October 7, 2022 (age 68)

Sunday afternoon on October 9, 2022, Shem Smith departed this life at Jackson General Hospital.

His funeral service was held on Sunday October 16, 2022, at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Burial was in the church cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home was in charge of the professional service.

Shem Leon Smith was born April 5, 1954, to Zinnia Smith and Marie Jones Smith in Hardeman County. He accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. Shem remained a member of Hopewell and later became a deacon where he served until his health began to fail.

He was dedicated to many organizations such as Masonic, Eastern Star, Sergeant in the Army National Guard, firefighter, and bus driver, etc. Shem was also a member of the community and Hopewell male chorus.

Along with his parents, Shem was preceded in death by one brother, Cleo Smith and one sister, Athea Cheairs.

Shem leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife of 44 years, Lizzie Smith; five children, Deitrick (Fontella) Mason, Corday Murphy, Marco Smith, Rodney (Fredrick) Braddic, and Regina (Oluwasegun) Badejoko; three brothers, Zinnia Albert Smith, Timothy Smith, and Thomas Levi (Marian) Smith all of Grand Junction, Tennessee; 10 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two special friends, Perry Talley and David C. Hicks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him very much.
