Obituary: Sylvia Leona Wilson Powell

Sylvia Leona Wilson Powell, 76, passed from this life Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was born in Silerton, the daughter of the late Ossie B. and Gladys Lambert Wilson and lived all her life in Hardeman County. After high school, she later became an LPN and worked for NHC in Somerville and Collierville Healthcare and Rehab before retiring in 2010. She was a member of Silerton Methodist Church.
Described by her family as a “boots and jeans kind of girl”, she enjoyed making jewelry and all the adventures life brought her way. She loved visits with her nieces, laughing and giggling, that never ended without a hug and kiss for each one. A positive and up-beat person, she was a devoted animal lover, as well.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar. Interment will take place in Wesley Cemetery in Silerton, Tennessee She leaves a brother, Sherry Wilson of Southaven, Mississippi; two nieces, Deborah Leathers and Robbie Understeller; four nephews, James Curtis Stack, Dexter Lynn Burkeen, Daniel Wade Burkeen, and Mark Allen Wilson; a very special great-nephew, Matthew Leathers; and her companion, Leon Fish.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by three sisters, Shirley Stack, Shelby Burkeen, and an infant sister; two brothers, Sherman and Wilburn Wilson; a niece, Diane Moon; a nephew, Dell Everett Burkeen; and a nephew-in-law, Jeff Understeller.
