Obituary: W. L. Swinford
W. L. Swinford, 83, of Saulsbury, passed away Friday, December 1, 2023, at Bolivar General Hospital.
Mr. Swinford was born on September 14, 1940, in Ashland, Mississippi, where he grew up. He lived in Brownfield, Mississippi, for a while, and lived in Hardeman County, Tennessee, for most of his life. Mr. Swinford loved to tinker with cars. He became a mechanic, traded cars, and was a dozer operator. Mr. Swinford loved to eat, especially when invited to “Deb’s”.
His survivors include four daughters, Cindy Hodge and husband Aubrey, of Middleton, Tennessee, Teresa Irwin and husband Scott, of Faulkner, Mississippi, Deborah Earnest and husband Robert, and Janice Taylor and husband Larry, of Pocahontas; a son, Randy Swinford of Middleton, Tennessee; a stepdaughter, Becky Watkins and husband Robert, of Walnut, Mississippi; a stepson, James “Bubba” Wilbanks and wife Shannon, also of Walnut, Mississippi; two sisters, Mary Lee Funderburk, of Michigan City, Mississippi, and Betty Jo Abby, of Walnut, Mississippi; a sister-in-law, Deb Surratt and husband Mike, of Middleton, Tennessee; two brothers-in-law, Wayne and Ronnie Sisco; former wife and mother of his five children, Geraldine Wilbanks, of Middleton; and several grandchildren and great-
grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, C. L. and Mary Ellen Hopkins Swinford; his wife, Kathy Jean Swinford; two brothers, Alvie and James “Snowball” Swinford; a sister, Edna Smith; and two brothers-in-law, Terry and Bobby Sisco.
Funeral services will be held at at Shackelford’s Middleton chapel on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 1 p.m. with a burial to follow in the Gentry Chapel Cemetery.
