Obituary: Wanda Hendrix Smalley Shelby

Wanda Hendrix Smalley Shelby ~ September 10, 1939February 14, 2023 (age 83)

Mrs. Wanda Hendrix Smalley Shelby, 83, of Bolivar, departed this life on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Christian Care Center in Bolivar. Services were held Monday, February 20, 2023, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar with burial following in Bolivar Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Bethel Springs, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Ray A. and Onnie Belle Chapman Hendrix. Retired in 1987 from W. R. Grace and
Company in Memphis, she served as executive secretary. She married Mr. Billy Smalley on December 20, 1971, and he passed away August 17, 1995. She was a member of Bolivar First Baptist Church. On March 11, 1997, she was united in marriage to Mr. Billy C. Shelby, who survives. They loved travelling together visiting all of the lower 48 states, Canada, and Nova Scotia. The Shelby’s would spend winter in Naples, Florida, enjoyed visiting the Great Smokey Mountains and Branson, Missouri, and many other interesting places.

Services were at the Shackelford Chapel in Bolivar on Monday, February 20, 2023, at 1 p.m. Burial was in Bolivar Memorial Cemetery. In addition to her husband of nearly 26 years, she is survived by two sisters, Carolyn Smalley of Cordova and Patsy Holder (James) of Grand Junction, Tennessee; one brother, Terry Hendrix (Mary), of Memphis; one step-daughter, Kerri Rainey; three step-grandchildren, Blake Rainey, Ashley Rainey Patrick, and Courtney Rainey Cole; four step-great-grandchildren, Raylan and Henry Patrick, and Juliana and Bradley Cole; three nieces, Suzanne Smalley Inghram, Holly Hendrix Vitalis, and Teresa Hendrix Daniel; and two great-nieces and two great-nephews.

In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby and Perry Hendrix; and a step-daughter, Melinda Shelby.

Memorials may be sent to the Bolivar First Baptist Church, Bolivar, Tennessee.
