Just Days Left to Turn in Petitions to Run for School Board, Property Assessor, and County Commission Seat

Residents of Hardeman County will soon have the opportunity to select a new assessor of property, three new school board members, and one new county commissioner, if they vote in the August 1, 2024, election.

The first day potential candidates could pick up a petition was October 16, 2023, and the qualifying deadline is Thursday, December 14, 2023, at noon.

As of Thursday December 7, 2023, in the afternoon, two petitions for Assessor of Property have been picked up by Democratic incumbent Josh Pulse and Republican Larry Crawford.

Five people have picked up petitions for School Board:

Independent candidates Johnny Davis and Bill Stone both picked up a petition for School Board District 2, Position 2. The position is currently held by Beverly Bodiford.

Independent candidates Stacey Swift and Steven Gibson both picked up a petition for School Board District 3, Position 3. The position is currently held by Terry King.

Democratic candidate Anthony Ford picked up a petition for School Board District 3, Position 1. The position is currently held by Jerry Crisp.

No one has picked up petitions for County Commission, District 1, Position 3. The seat was recently added to the open positions after County Commission Thomas Polk passed away in November.

Anyone interested in qualifying to be on the ballot must be a resident of the district, must pick up a petition from the Hardeman County Election Commission, and get 25 signatures from registered voters in their district. Petitions must be turned in by noon (12 p.m. CST) on Thursday, December 14, 2023. The full list of requirements to qualify is available at the Hardeman County Election Commission Office, 106 South Porter Street, in Bolivar.

A primary election for Republican and Democrat candidates will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, before the County General and State Primary election on Thursday, August 1, 2024.
