Pocahontas Man Arrested for Aggravated Domestic Assault, Trafficking, Kidnapping, and More

Jeffery Hart, 51, of Pocahontas was arrested again Tuesday after attacking the victim of his domestic assault charge while they were at the Hardeman County Criminal Justice Complex for his hearing.

According to court records, on Friday, July 7, 2023, officers responded to a call about a women who had been hit with a hammer. Hart was identified as the suspect and arrested and charged with kidnapping, aggravated domestic assault, and resisting arrest.

While at the Hardeman County Criminal Justice Complex for his scheduled court appearance on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, Hart cornered the victim in a hallway and slammed her head against a concrete wall outside of the courtroom.

According to the August 1, 2023, incident report, the victim came to court with Hart “not willingly.” Hart is also accused of putting the victim in a bathtub of water with an electric dog collar on her body and threatening her life if she did not drop the charges against him, threatening her life with a shotgun he kept beside the bed, and cutting her with a knife. Investigators said the woman had numerous cuts and bruises on her body. The report also stated the victim said she was not free to leave her home, and is Hart’s “property”.

Jeffery Hart was booked into the Hardeman County Criminal Justice Complex and charged with aggravated domestic assault, aggravated kidnapping, trafficking a person for sexual servitude, coercion of a witness, and tampering with or fabricating evidence. He is being held on a $175,000 bond. His next court date is set for August 15, 2023.
